I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about investing in not only a better, more professional grade camera but taking an amateur photography class so I can actually make good use out of said expensive camera. It would be great to take amazing photos of my project installs, day to day musings, and inspiration for this here blog. I'm not saying I'll ever even come close to a professional, I admire the true experts out there and my expertise lies elsewhere, but you know what I mean. For the time being I can use this pretty cheat sheet to take a stab at taking better pics....

I first saw Chris's work at the Art of Photography show downtown. I wrote about one of his incredible images a while back along with other featured photographers from the show. I keep coming back to his work and am blown away by his range.

I'm sure that everyone and their mom has written about Nan Lawson because she is just that amazing. But I don't care. I couldn't help myself. Don't you just love her illustrations?! What a great style. I really want to start a collection; I think they would look so lovely as a grouping on my office wall, a collection to cheer me throughout my work day. Endearing pictures and sweet sentiments that just make me happy. Her art has been described as "sweet and quirky" with a bit of edginess which perfectly explains why I love it so much. Here are a few of my favorites....
But did you know that Nan is an awesome photographer too? Yep. She is one multi-talented lady.
Nan creates beauty and I love all that she does. She can create custom portraits too! I would love one of me Jake and the fam.
You must visit Nan's site here and her illustration shop here.

This week's art crawl features a sampling of the Art of Photography Show in San Diego. Jake and I attended the opening last weekend on behalf of Artware. The selection of works is unbelievable. Out of 13,692 entries, 111 were selected for exhibit. Here are a few of my favorites...
If you are in San Diego you have to check out the show while it stands through November.

Happy Friday! I am so excited for the weekend. I have had a lovely week but it just doesn't compare to the weekend fun in the sun, lounging on the sand, yoga in the mornings, and wine in the evenings. These pictures by Cassia Black's, Lola's Room make me happy too. They are so sweet, they make my teeth hurt! I have been on a photography kick, and the creamier and softer the photos, the better. I love the dreamy, vintage feel these pictures evoke. You have to check out her sweet Etsy shop. I could barely limit myself to 4 photos to share as my favorites as my favorites change every time I visit her shop. But I will give it a shot:
Visit Cassia's shop here and her lovely blog here.

It's the weekend! I'm ready for some summer fun. I have decided sun or no sun, I will be on the beach this weekend and returning with sand everywhere. That's the best part isn't it? The sandy reminder in your car, your beach bag, shoes, that you have been enjoying summer to the fullest. I'm hoping that my weekend looks something like the four captured memories above. These fantastic Polaroid prints are from Jena Ardell on Etsy. Her retro fine art photography looks for real doesn't it? Although these are modern prints, they tend to transport one back in time. I love that.

....back in the sun. Although I got WAY too much sun yesterday (spent the night covered in Noxzema and wet towels), I want to go back. My goal is to crank through some work this week and squeeze in a little beach time for some much needed inspiration and R & R. We'll see...I love this polaroid from She Hit Pause Studio's Matt Schwartz. All of his images, from "pin-up girls" to beach scenes are fantastic and feel nostalgic and unedited. See my art crawl post about him here. Check out his site here.

It is summer in Southern California! June gloom is wrapping up and I could not be happier. I am so excited to get to the beach and celebrate! These hip polaroid prints by hula seventy are quintessential California summer to me. Give me a boom box, colorful umbrella and some flip flops and I'm ready for it. Load everything up in an old school VW bus and pile in friends and we're all set. Just add beach.

Lucy Snowe captures three of my favorite things: the beach and sky, flowers, and animals. All of her photographs have a creamy, and vintage feel to them. The colors are absolutely amazing and I could gaze at them all day. Seriously. It feels like looking through the haze of a daydream when viewing her fine art photographs. I was excited to see her on the front page of Etsy yesterday as part of justCHARMING's treasury. A series of any of her works would look amazing in any setting, especially my humble abode in little Del Mar...

animals (these absolutely crack me up):
Thanks so much to Lucy for her amazing photos! Be sure to visit her website here and her Etsy shop here!
