a study break
Posted by Unknown
Sort of. I'm taking a break this upcoming week from the blog world to study. Lord help me. I think exams, certification, registration, licensing.... it never freakin' ends. I'm a licensed Interior Designer which means I have sat for the national exam and completed many other requirements. However, depending on the state where you work and live, there may be additional "hoops" to jump through. Long story short, when moving to California, if you want to be certified in the state, you guessed it, another exam. Specifically, The IDEX which is all about the building codes and business legalities that impact an Interior Designer practicing in this lovely state. :)
So it is go time and down to the wire as I'm staring down the last week before my test next Friday. To put it in perspective, the study guide to reference the study material available to me is a couple hundred pages itself. So.....I have 4 textbooks, the building codes of California, state bulletins, and regulations to memorize these next 6 days. Meaning, I will not see daylight for some time. Wish me luck and see you next week!
Fingers crossed!

the weekend at last
Posted by Unknown
The weekend. Finally! This has been a crazy week. So crazy in fact, that I didn't get to go estate sale-ing and thrifting with my Friday finds friend Bianca. Bummer right? I did get lots accomplished but it looks like I will be working right through the weekend which also happens to be my and Jake's b-days. So, I'm hoping we get a little R & R at some point and some fun packages like the ones above. :) Speaking of packages, I just sent out a lot to a dear friend for a super fun blog event coming up. I love creating little treasures with a simple, homemade with love feel. And I can't wait to find out how the recipients react to them. I will be sure to share details and pics later....
Happy weekend and I hope you tear it up! Or enjoy it quietly too.

happy thoughts for the weekend...
Posted by Unknown
I'm leaving you with some soft sentiments for the weekend. These thoughtful clothespins would look sweet while hanging photos and clippings from some twine or framing wire as a simple inspiration board. Some of these are a little too sweet and kum ba yah for my liking but I like the idea behind them. I would burn some ornery phrases on to mine to keep me motivated throughout the day and or make me laugh.
Happy weekend and see you next week!

friday four & faves - i'm a back to school nerd
Posted by Unknown
When I was growing up, I was the nerd that loved back to school time more than anything. While all the other kids were cherishing the last sweet days of summer vacation, I was making my wish list of back to school necessities. Seriously, shopping for school supplies and my "first day of school" outfit was my favorite early Fall activity. Just ask my Mom. She loved it right along with me. There ain't nothing better than a new pencil box, new notebooks, and the smell of brand new erasers. Ok so obviously I'm still that nerd. Although I'm technically no longer "going" to school, I can't stop that yearly craving to check out the back to school specials and buy un-needed supplies.
Here are the four picks shown above:
one. areaware tape dispenser at velocity art and design
two. know it all pencil set at ReForm school rules
three. everyday flats 12 by shim and sons
four. calypso Fall lookbook
Have a great labor day weekend!

Happy Friday friends! I don't know about you but I am looking forward to the weekend. I have had a great week: yoga, family, having coffee with a new friend, and new projects! This weekend I am blessed to be spending time with family coming in from L.A., seeing family friends perform in the park, and picnic-ing with loved ones. I bet that we will squeeze in a bit of beach time too. It would be lovely to stay in this perfect beach home of pretty like the one above....
What plans do you have for the weekend???

friday four & faves - pastel pics
Posted by Unknown
Happy Friday! I am so excited for the weekend. I have had a lovely week but it just doesn't compare to the weekend fun in the sun, lounging on the sand, yoga in the mornings, and wine in the evenings. These pictures by Cassia Black's, Lola's Room make me happy too. They are so sweet, they make my teeth hurt! I have been on a photography kick, and the creamier and softer the photos, the better. I love the dreamy, vintage feel these pictures evoke. You have to check out her sweet Etsy shop. I could barely limit myself to 4 photos to share as my favorites as my favorites change every time I visit her shop. But I will give it a shot:
one. hello daisy
two. carefree
three. the simple things
four. penguin books

friday four & faves - long live art
Posted by Unknown
If you haven't already heard, Fossil has a very cool promotion going on, "Long Live Art". Fossil has partnered with four talented artists who specialize in vintage art forms. Each artist has created an original work illustrating Long Live Vintage. I am so excited to see four of my fave artists and creators that have partnered up in this cool promotion.
one. Hatch Show Print is a legend in my book. One of the oldest letterpress operations, it is known everywhere for its iconic posters and imagery. It has even produced a label for one of my favorite wines, "The Show"! I love this tote bag created especially for Fossil. I would carry this everywhere! I love it's vintage, stylishly casual appeal. A poster and t-shirt in the same print are also available.
two. I love the vintage inspired designs by yellow owl workshop. Based out of San Francisco but seen in cute boutiques everywhere, each piece is crafted by Christine Schmidt out of eco friendly products. This stamp kit is so sweet. Think of all the cute stationary and notes we can make! She has created a cute tote too.
three. I have been a fan of Dolan Geiman for a while now. In fact, I featured his incredible artwork in one of my very first posts. Inspired by everything vintage, his work is composed of salvaged wood, found objects, old paper and anything he can get his hands on. The amazing thing is how he transforms these items into unbelievably unique artwork. And now we can wear it. I love that he created a tee for the Fossil promotion with some of his popular motifs. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a freak for birds (little squishes) and they're all over this sweet tee. Some even better news? Dolan and Fossil are doing a giveaway. Enter now to win a crazy good piece of Dolan's art and a Fossil grab bag of products.
four. Last but certainly not least is the lovely Paige Russel. Her ceramic works are beautiful with vintage Scandinavian and Mid-Century influences. These ceramic planters are such a great deal and I would love several for my patio. Can you imagine how cute they would be filled with succulents and cactus?
What a great project huh?! And congrats to these four for their amazing talent and being selected to partner with Fossil for this super cool promotion.

friday four & faves - blog love
Posted by Unknown
This Friday 4 & Faves is all about some blog love for my latest favorite reads.
Fern and Feather, created by the lovely Alexis, is a sweet blog covering all things pretty and personal from design to her family to recipes and friends. I love that she is my "neighbor", living right here in Southern California. Alexis is always introducing us to other fabulous bloggers and I find inspiration here daily. In fact she introduced me to another fave read of mine, Happenstance.
Happenstance is a cool blog discussing great design and style and chance happenings and events, hence "happenstance". Another California blogger, I look forward to her posts and pics every day. She has a great writing style and while inspiring, you get a good laugh too.
Sort of Pink is such a pretty blog from Finland. It is fresh, simple and just lovely. She always has the best imagery and I could look at the pictures all day long. She describes it as her haven for all things lovely and I think it's exactly that.
Live and Enliven is a stylish, fun blog with great finds. It's all about living and the things that enliven Ana Degenaar. She is a blog designer too! Be sure to check out her blog designs available on her site.

friday four & faves - just add beach

It is summer in Southern California! June gloom is wrapping up and I could not be happier. I am so excited to get to the beach and celebrate! These hip polaroid prints by hula seventy are quintessential California summer to me. Give me a boom box, colorful umbrella and some flip flops and I'm ready for it. Load everything up in an old school VW bus and pile in friends and we're all set. Just add beach.

friday four & faves - my new online hang-outs
Posted by Unknown
This Friday's Four & Faves are all about my fave online "spots" where I find myself hanging out for way too long; always of course when I need to be working. But my first fave actually makes my life so much easier albeit it is my new addiction.....
1. Pinterest. Seriously I am loving this site. It's such a great bookmarking tool and creative place where everyone creates virtual pinboards (inspiration boards). I find so much inspiration here and in turn I am encouraged to generate more ideas and fun boards for others to take away from. Thanks to the lovely Victoria at sfgirlbybay and her "pin it forward" blogger mash-up, we now have this fun, inspiring, creative meeting place and idea center to partake in. Be sure to check out all the amazing bloggers and their "pin it forward" pinboards. The schedule is here. (P.S. I'm on for June 18th!)
2. One of my new favorite blogs, "hello, splendor" is a must read. It is the modern handbook for a modern family authored by my lovely friend Beth. Great finds, raves, tips and more can be seen on this sweet blog. Check it out here.
4. Finally, my last stop is "Laura Day, Making Rooms for Living". This clever webazine offers amazing design insight, tips, sources, eye candy and more, one room at a time. Laura takes us through all her "rooms" and each one is definitely a special destination with pretty interiors, sage advice, and inspiration. Be sure to take some time this weekend to visit here.

But first things first, here are my friday four & faves to take with you for the weekend ahead.... 1. I want to start a good book this weekend or maybe catch up on a great webazine too. I LOVE Laura Day Living. Her concept and site are amazing. You should check it out too. 2. I'm traveling to L.A. this weekend to hang with family. Maybe I can squeze in a fab lunch or early dinner at Tavern L.A., one of my fave restos there. 3. The weather is perfect again so I think I'm bringing the bike and basket back out for a joy ride. My basket is perfect for picking up a bottle of wine... 4. Vote for my bestie Beth Dotolo who is nominated for Best Design Professional for the 2010 Juli B Stlye Awards. She needs our votes!!! |

friday four & faves...happy weekend!
Posted by Unknown
1. I actually got a head start on my weekend last night at the Edward Sharpe show at the Belly Up. It was awesome!!!! Let me tell you, the band was feelin' the spirit last night. It felt like a revival in there! It was a great time and the music is just happy. Something we all need a little more of once in a while. If you haven't seen or heard them, you MUST check them out. And for all you lucky folks heading to Coachella, they will be there. Wish the pics were clearer but it was rockin' last night! Here are the other 3 fave pics from last night...

friday four & faves - fam in santa monica
Posted by Unknown
I have been enjoying my weekend in Santa Monica with my nieces who are on spring break. I forgot how fun imagination without limits can be. Kids are so creative! From dress-up, to tie-dye, to pretend carnival (with, games, tickets, and prizes of course), I have found some inspiration in the most unexpected places...

1) Make-up practice brings back memories (and a little bit of a mess) :D.
2) Our version of "ski ball" for one of the backyard carnival games.

3) The assortment of prizes with their corresponding ticket costs.

4) The "groovy" tie-dye (isn't it coming back in?) t-shirts and onesies the girls created with their Grandma Jennifer and Aunt Michelle.

friday four & faves...peep show!
Posted by Unknown
Ok so I have Easter on the brain. Yesterday was all warm and fuzzy but today.... well today is downright funny!!! I am not a big marshmallow fan but for some silly reason, I am crazy for Peeps. They are a crucial part of Easter for me. AND to discover that they are more than just a guilty pleasure but a source of artistic hillarity as well? Rad! My sister Melanie gave me the head's up to the Peep Show, Peeps Diorama contest by the Washington Post. Here are some from this year and years past:
From Peep Show 1 2007, "Peeping Peeps" by Anne Lukas and MegPaganelli as seen on Washington Post online reported by Renee Comet.
From Peep Show 1 2007, "Dr. Paul's Peep-o-Suction Clinic" by Marti Doyle as seen on Washington Post online reported by Renee Comet.
From Peep Show 1 2007, "Rosslyn Metro Station, Friday 5 p.m." as seen on Washington Post online reported by Renee Comet.
From Peep Show IV 2010, Winning Diorama based on Pixar movie "Up" by Michael Chirlin and Veronica Ettle as seen on Washington Post online reported by Bill O'Leary. Reported by Holly E. Thomas.
