There's no A.C in these here parts. Living next to the coast, this is pretty normal. So to keep things from burning up, fans are a must. But ugly fans? Well they're just not cool. And yes. I have been guilty of the "ugly box fan in the window" scene but things have to change. These modern contenders would do nicely. They look good, they blend in, and beat the heat in style.

I saw this rug over at Art at Heart and it just made me smile a bit. Funny that with just a flip, its mood completely changes. I sometimes wish I could just turn it around like that. Though I have a feeling my expressions would be a tad more colorful and perhaps not appropriate for display. :)

If you haven't already heard, Fossil has a very cool promotion going on, "Long Live Art". Fossil has partnered with four talented artists who specialize in vintage art forms. Each artist has created an original work illustrating Long Live Vintage. I am so excited to see four of my fave artists and creators that have partnered up in this cool promotion.
one. Hatch Show Print is a legend in my book. One of the oldest letterpress operations, it is known everywhere for its iconic posters and imagery. It has even produced a label for one of my favorite wines, "The Show"! I love this tote bag created especially for Fossil. I would carry this everywhere! I love it's vintage, stylishly casual appeal. A poster and t-shirt in the same print are also available.
two. I love the vintage inspired designs by yellow owl workshop. Based out of San Francisco but seen in cute boutiques everywhere, each piece is crafted by Christine Schmidt out of eco friendly products. This stamp kit is so sweet. Think of all the cute stationary and notes we can make! She has created a cute tote too.
three. I have been a fan of Dolan Geiman for a while now. In fact, I featured his incredible artwork in one of my very first posts. Inspired by everything vintage, his work is composed of salvaged wood, found objects, old paper and anything he can get his hands on. The amazing thing is how he transforms these items into unbelievably unique artwork. And now we can wear it. I love that he created a tee for the Fossil promotion with some of his popular motifs. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a freak for birds (little squishes) and they're all over this sweet tee. Some even better news? Dolan and Fossil are doing a giveaway. Enter now to win a crazy good piece of Dolan's art and a Fossil grab bag of products.
four. Last but certainly not least is the lovely Paige Russel. Her ceramic works are beautiful with vintage Scandinavian and Mid-Century influences. These ceramic planters are such a great deal and I would love several for my patio. Can you imagine how cute they would be filled with succulents and cactus?
What a great project huh?! And congrats to these four for their amazing talent and being selected to partner with Fossil for this super cool promotion.

The weather here in San Diego has been amazing this week so my thoughts have been wandering to the outdoors, the nearby beach, and right up to my little patio/oasis. It needs a little freshening up and updating for the season and I found four amazing faves to help me out...
Scouted on Etsy this week, featured seller LBRANDTerraria is satisfying my love of terrariums and all things miniature. Soon, Jake and I will be planning one of our regular camping weekends in Borrego and this little treasure feels like my own miniature desert hanging from my patio...
This soft wood sofa by Front for Moroso would pair perfectly opposite my clear Victoria Ghost Chairs. The weather in San Diego is arid so this sofa can withstand the outdoors. This "sofa" would look great softened with these burlap pillows:
Inspired by Martha, I'm starting a mini garden this spring to house my tower of herbs out on the patio. (Thanks for the tip Norm!) These old fashioned gardening tools from objetpetita on Etsy may just make me feel like I know what I'm doing.

I don't know about you, but I am still adjusting to the time change. Inspired by Real Simple magazine this month and in the spirit of "spring forward", here are some good lookin' wall clocks that may help you adjust to the time a little prettier...

And for some more handmade goodness, check out these pretty wooden coasters from peppersprouts on Etsy. Along with these cute chairs, there are other designs to choose from like the sweet silhouettes and home sweet home cut-out houses...

It's getting closer!......Only a few more days until the brilliance that is Tim Burton is upon us. Now I know that the color of stripes have varied over the years and different versions of the story but the whimsical nature of the movie is what inspired me to cling to multi stripe this week. It's fun nonetheless.
And no one does stripes better than Sir Paul Smith.

As I'm gearing up for my exciting silkscreen workshop this weekend, I have been searching for some inspiration..and I found it in these fluffy works of art.
I am ready to create my own poem pillow and jump on a harley after finding this little precious. It's crazy good.. Solo on Cedros.
And as I love anything with animals and nature, this pillow too will soon reside on my sofa. Thomaspaul Thoroughbred Pillow via 2Modern.

Love was the theme all weekend and a little bit of it carried into the studio too. As we are making preparations to launch our Etsy shop later this week (yeah!!), we thought we would share with you the happenings in our studio and let you in on a little of the action. Jake has been rocking out in the woodworking shop and has created some amazing architectural wood pieces that are part of our lifestyle brand: art. design. objects. Among them was a sweet bracelet he made for me for Valentine's Day, (love him), and the amazingly beautiful Bocote piece you see below.... Enjoy!

Here are several pieces from Studio Surface. There are also additional styles, not all shown here, in our accessories collection in a variety of wood species: Cocobolo, Bocote, Ebony, Purple Heart, Lacewood, Bloodwood, etc. all which are salvaged and/or responsibly harvested. We do not throw any pieces away and reuse the remnants in additional styles and custom work. [Photography by Kevin Dotolo]:

Only a couple more days and it's here. The big day. Inspired by all things red, here are four of my faves for Friday that are not of the edible or sweet smelling variety though they are lovely.....
Dramatic red lacquer walls in this ultra hip bathroom. Furniture Guild of California lowboy circa early 1950’s from Red.

Each Friday we will be bringing to you what we think is pretty neat stuff. And typically there is no rhyme or reason to my selections and perhaps nothing that clearly connects them except for my complete infatuation! These are my "Friday Four" or "Friday Faves" for the week.
Awesome! And thank you Laura Fosberg. Of course I love this because it has a little squish bird (my favorite) resting on a cigarette. Bad Henry.
These pillows by Joy Price are rad!!! They hail from my favorite boutique in Southern California - Solo on Cedros where the very cool Jennifer Price Studio is located, a collection of industrial and vintage goods and creations.
I have been eyeing these vintage reproduction draftsman stools from Restoration Hardware for quite a while now. If you can't get the real thing, these would do quite nicely.
I look at the John Houshmand website and I get super envious at the display of some sick talent. This sculpture is no exception. "Arch" is western red cedar and metallic painted plaster. And the hand "holding" it up?! Brilliant.
